ABOUT THRIVE CONTRACTING
THRIVE Contracting is the result of a budding real estate development partnership between Danville, VA developer, Rick Barker and experienced General Contractor, Mike Allen. With Rick’s vision and Mike’s experience developing the first commercial projects in The 500 Block of Craghead Street in Danville Va’s River District, this duo is formally converging to propel the dream of The 500 Block forward as well as assist outside clientele to bring their development, restoration, and preservation dreams to life. The design and construction standard set by Barker and Allen has now become a brand in and of itself and is being actively sought out to deliver high quality projects to other regional stakeholders.
THRIVE Contracting is well suited to handle new construction, repair and restoration of buildings that offer historic significance to their locale, and consultation to the historic rehab tax credit process. Our portfolio of projects includes, 554 Craghead St., a commercial building that is home to a national packaging distributor (Supply Resources) and nationally recognized investment advisory firm (Truist Wealth) as well as the Suites 530 and 536 Craghead, home to Mucho Taqueria, The Garage BBQ, and the 530 Craghead St. apartments.

554 CRAGHEAD STREET (PIEDMONT HARDWARE RESTORATION)
The flagship collaboration between Rick Barker Properties and Mike Allen resulted in a gorgeous commercial property housing the corporate headquarters for a national tertiary packaging supplies distributor on the first floor. To compliment the headquarters, a corporate apartment was added to the second floor for customer and community uses. 554 Craghead St. also contains luxury office space on the second floor with an identically sized third floor that is prepared to be built out to your dream specifications.
530 CRAGHEAD ST (HUGHES BUILDING RESTORATION)
Bookending the 500 Block of Craghead Street is the Hughes Building, which boasts 3-4 commercial spaces on the ground floor and 6 boutique apartments on the second floor. Mucho, the first commercial tenant in this space, has been recognized for its interior design provided by our development team. Each apartment and studio upstairs has a unique layout with individually selected countertops, cabinets, and light fixtures in each unit.
536 CRAGHEAD ST (VENABLE BUILDING RESTORATION)
Characteristic to the other venues in this block, the Venable Building is a two-story, mixed use development containing commercial space on the first floor with a residence on the second floor. The first floor commercial space has currently been built out to host an art gallery in collaboration with a local Museum. Similar to the apartments above 530 Craghead St., this unit has a unique floorplan, fixtures, and finishes compared to your standard River District loft.

RICK BARKER
Rick Barker has long held an interest in a variety of creative arts, gravitating specifically towards physical forms such as sculpture and architecture. As Rick’s career has progressed from a packaging salesman, to founding his own distributor and logistics business, Rick had his first opportunity to design his corporate headquarters at 554 Craghead St. Rick’s attention to detail and demand for high quality paved the way for the birth of The 500 Block of Craghead St. in Danville, VA’s River District. Rick dreams of contributing to the city’s renaissance by bringing the culture embedded into other urban areas to Danville, VA through the vehicle of urban redevelopment.
MIKE ALLEN
Mike is an experienced Jobsite Superintendent with 14 years’ experience with a major contractor out of the Raleigh, NC metro area. Mike has managed all construction elements for new construction and building redevelopment and preservation projects throughout the Southeast United States. Outside of building and renovating buildings, Mike is also passionate about spending time with his children and restoring British sports cars.
